EGrammar 18 Present Tenses (I am doing / I do)with a Future Meaning
ちょっと久しぶりのスタバ。#17のタイムスタンプを見たら2/10だったのでおよそ5日ぶり。今日は2/15。しばらくアップロードしてない気がするので、#18のアップロードはいつになるんだろう。(*2/24になりました。)
今日は マーブルモカマキアート。多分バレンタイン後の新商品。結構甘め。新柄のタンブラーも出ていて、ちょっと心惹かれる。今使ってるハート柄はこの間落としちゃってひびが入っちゃってるんだよね。
日本では3/1に桜柄のタンブラーが出るらしくて、サクラスキーとしてはすごく羨ましい。あと、クリエイトユアタンブラーっていう、自分でタンブラーの模様を作れるタンブラーもちょっと気になってて。そんなにいらないよね、ってことで我慢してるけど、何かの拍子にきっと買うだろうな、とも思ってたりしてる。
という訳で、前置きながっ。今日は未来の意味で使う現在形(do / be doing)
This is Ben's appointment book for next week.
He is playing tennis on Monday afternoon.
He is going to the dentist on Tuesday morning.
He is having dinner with Ann on Friday.
In all these examples, Ben has already decided and arranged to do these things.
このように、することを決めた未来のことについては現在進行形で表現します。be going toを使うことも出来るけど、現在進行形を使った方がより自然です。あと、willはこういう時は使えない、そうです。(#20くらいで後述)
We use the simple present to talk about timetables, schedules, etc. You can use the simple present for people if their plans are fixed, like a schedule. But the continuous is more commonly used for personal arrangements.
The plane leaves Chicago at 11:30 and arrives in Atlanta at 2:45.
Tomorrow is Wednesday.
What time are you leaving tomorrow?
What time does the plane leave tomorrow?
I'm going to the movies tonight.
The movie starts at 8:15.
